In keeping with the traditions of the Masters in Educational Technology (MAET) program it was once again up to the instructors to create a spoof piece for the student organized MAET News for the fourth and final week of the 2011 program.  Last year we set the bar pretty high with the MAET Cribs Video so we had a new challenge this year to create something new to top last years video.  We thought long and hard about what we could do, and we came up with the idea to spoof the popular TV show The Amazing Race.

One of the most challenging aspects of producing this video was the time constraints in which it is created.  For this particular video Leigh wolf and I brainstormed the entire idea from concept in one evening put together a quick storyboarded  then the entire video was shot, edited and rendered in about 5 hours time.  So in total this project only took roughly 6-7 hours to complete.  One of the small features of this video that helped make it so much fun to do was the special voice-over work we had done.  We were lucky enough to have the Vice President and Executive Director of Alumni Relations Scott Westerman voice our video introductions and serve as the official voice over for the video.

Here are some images from behind the scenes of the video creation process.

Post filming in the editing room.  For this project I used Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for all the rendering and editing.  Once the video was finalized it was rendered out at 720p HD for high quality playback.  The video was then uploaded to YouTube for anyone to watch and incorporated into the MAET News on July 22, 2011.

The Equipment used for this video shoot was my Nikon D300s in video rig configuration with a Zacuto viewfinder and Rode shotgun mic attachments.  We also used a GoPro HD with an autosport suction cup mount to get the images form the car.  All of the video was edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 on a 15 inch MacBook Pro.
